challengers

(spoilers ahead)

challengers is a film. a choice film, one may say. 

I watched it in a university auditorium recently. the air was rarefied. literally. I saw a study a while ago about the chemical composition of the air changing in cinemas based upon the current scene. while I cannot speak to the scientific merit of that study, I can say for certain:

I felt it!

when the boys kiss you are truly moved. at least this audience was. it was a roar unparalleled by anything but sporting events, which I guess we were witnessing a sort of. this is a film that could really only be made in the post-covid era. it is simultaneously played so straight (get it) yet tongue-in-cheek only a scene later. the tone shift does get a little tiring but it was incredible to immerse myself in this cartoonishly messy sitcom-style love triangle. thank you challengers!
